This drive is prone to crashing. When it does they will exchange it for a new drive but you pay for shipping. It is not worth the hassle.
I occasionally use it for online activity (e.g. The Iomega has worked flawlessly as a backup device for 6 months now. Very good performance for a USB hard drive, and comes on line quickly upon powerup. burning a CD, viewing photos, etc) however I should stress strongly that this is a backup/archive device, not a 100% available disk drive. If the unit is left on more than 20 minutes it becomes VERY hot and I would have to assume this might negatively impact its reliability if used on a continuous basis.
Super simple to use, plug in and drop and drag. Does NOT run off USB power. The unit does get rather warm, and does not have an internal fan, so I use a small desktop fan just to be safe.I have had no problem using this unit on my Windows XP, Vista and I even tried it on my old Windows 98 and had no problems at all.
The Iomega Prestige external hard drive is stylish and very affordable. It was very easy to set up. I have backed up two computers to the device and had no difficulties doing so.
So far, so good. It works as promised. My only beef is that is makes a strange, somewhat organic noise when it starts up that startled me until I finally got used to it.
